Exercise 1.1: Biotic/Abiotic/Dead

It is the middle of summer and your friend has invited you to go on a camping trip to Crimson Lake Provincial Park in Central Alberta. At the lake you spend a lot of time playing on the beach and in the water. At the lake edge ecosystem there are many biotic, abiotic, and dead components.

Write a paragraph describing your lake edge surroundings. The paragraph must include:

 a) 5 biotic components - highlight these components by putting "quotes" around them.
b)  5 abiotic components - highlight these components by putting (brackets) around them.
c)  3 dead components - highlight these components by underlining them.

2. Look around your community and list three interactions among biotic and abiotic factors. Make sure to point out which is the biotic and the abiotic components.
