Exercise 5.2: Sugar Processing

Copy and Paste the table into the submission box and complete. If you would like to use Google docs, just copy and paste your document link (don't forget to make sure you have shared the document so that I have permission to open the document with the link).

Problem: Explain the processes of solar evaporation and vacuum evaporation. What are the similarities and differences of these processes?

Sweet, wonderful, sugar generally has two sources. In warmer climates it is processed from sugar cane. But here in Alberta we get it from sugar beets.

Use the following sites to answer the following questions and activities.

Analyze and Conclude

1. What is the process called that makes sugar in green plants?
2. Describe a sugar cane.
3. Describe a sugar beet.
4. Explain the process of sugar refining and include a labelled diagram of the sugar refining process. (Use the words solvent, solute, solution, filtration, evaporation, and crystallize in your explanation)
DO NOT paste the diagram into this location. Create your diagram in a graphics program that you are sure I have. Then save it, as a gif or jepg, to your computer where you would like it saved. Then attach it in this location. If you need help doing this go to the following link.
